Podcasts (along with subtitled films and series) are a great way to learn Spanish and are especially useful for improving your oral comprehension. When it comes to memorization, however, podcasts arent as effective as the spaced repetition system (used in MosaLingua applications), but you can listen to them while doing something else, like driving or ironing, for example ;-))
What is a podcast?
According to Wikipedia, a podcast is an episodic series of audio or video files that users can listen or subscribe to. When you subscribe to a podcast, it gets automatically downloaded on your computer or mobile device.
On iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc.), you can subscribe to podcasts via iTunes (iTunes Store menu->Podcast), and iTunes will automatically download the podcasts you choose onto your iPod or iPhone. This may seem complicated, but its actually remarkably simple: all you have to do is click Subscribe and the podcast will automatically download onto your iPhone/iPod (or other device).
Podcasts work on most MP3 players and smartphones.
Android phones can use the free app Podcast Addict, an application that allows users to subscribe to podcasts directly on their mobile device.
Spanish podcasts are essentially series of audio recordings in Spanish, specifically intended for people who want to learn Spanish. In general, these podcasts are based on the Pimsleur method, one of the precursors of audio learning methods, but most podcasts do not even come close to this method. The good news is these podcasts are usually free.
The best podcasts for learning Spanish
Ive personally spent a lot of time on the search for good podcasts for learning Spanish, and I have to tell you that most of the podcasts out there are quite simply useless, or only intended to promote content that you have to pay for or an expensive product that may not even work. So, here is my selection of the best podcasts for learning Spanish (that are actually useful!):
News in Slow Spanish

Notes in Spanish (beginner, advanced)
These are well done, progressive courses, but unfortunately there is more English spoken than Spanish in the beginner level. However, in the advanced level, Spanish is the dominant language.

Coffee Break Spanish

ShowTime Spanish (intermediate)
ShowTime Spanish is the intermediate level of Coffee Break Spanish. Its based on the same principle: a student learning at the same time as you from a Spanish professor. A good free podcast for learning spanish.

Podcasts for advanced learners
For those of you who already know quite a bit of Spanish and want to maintain it (dont forget about the forgetting curve), there are podcasts that arent focused on teaching the language, but rather on a variety of interesting topics. There are many websites where you can find directories of Spanish podcasts.
One such website is ivoox.com, where you will find nearly all Spanish podcasts organized by topic (e.g. Technology, Sports, Home, Arts, Games, Blogs, Health, etc.).
